SERECO: MORE THAN
25 YEARS AT SERVICE OF THE ENVIRONMENT

Thanks to our experience in the industrial waste treatment sector, we believed it was important to be able to offer companies a service that reduced the costs of waste resource management. Thus, SERECO GESTION was founded in 1997 with a clear vocation towards mobile installations to offer our clients an innovative service providing treatment and minimization of waste “on-site”

Initially our main activity was focused on centrifuging refinery waste.

In 2002 we expanded our activity to include sludge dewatering, using mobile filter presses. Sludge drying from water purification plants, bentonite and waste from industrial processes (Petro-Chemical, steelmaking…) became the most important aspect of our activity.

Our growing concern to be able to provide our clients with a safer and more economic service of sludge extraction from industrial ponds led to the incorporation in 2006 of an ecological dredge that allowed sludge sediment extraction without the need to empty them and without the need for personnel to be in these areas. Since then, the ecological dredge has been legally recognized as “ATEX classified machinery” apt for working in ATEX classified spaces.

Since 2008 we have designed and constructed, in conjunction with the main machinery engineers and manufacturers, large filter and centrifuge plants, Construction and demolition waste, soil washing, that we have then operated. As a result of this collaboration, we have gained experience in both operation and maintenance achieving extraordinary results in key indicators of maintenance and reliability, which in turn, has made us excellent partners on BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) operations.

As proof of this, between 2013 and 2020, we participated in the largest decontamination project undertaken in Spain. Through the design, engineering, assembly and operation of a Treatment Plant for contaminated dredging sludge, the result of the dumping of industrial waste for more than 100 years in the Ebro River.

In 2013, with the support of the CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial, del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación), we developed the DESTER project, an effective technique that allows the concentration of radiological elements from contaminated soil with the ultimate aim of restoring the maximum percentage of contaminated soil and minimizing the quantity of radioactive waste needing to be stored.

In 2017, we achieved a significant milestone by obtaining ENAC accreditation according to the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17020 standard for the investigation and remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to quality and safety in our procedures.

In 2022, we continued advancing our commitment to providing the best service to our clients by obtaining ENAC accreditation in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17020 standard in the field of waste characterization. This achievement highlights our ability to offer high-quality solutions and reinforces our responsibility toward the environment.

The year 2023 marked a new chapter in our international expansion with the opening of our branch in Portugal, following three years of work and presence in this country. This step reaffirms our commitment to the Lusophone market.

Also, at the end of 2023, after several months of preparation and planning, we moved to our new facilities in Oruña de Piélagos – Cantabria (Spain). This change has been a significant step in our growth, providing us with a great opportunity for greater optimization of our operations and progress in our goal of excellence in the quality of our services.

Operarios de Sereco

President

ARSENIO DE LA VEGA MARTÍNEZ

I am the company founder, and I am proud to lead a magnificent team of professionals who are dedicated to making our company more efficient and more competitive for our customers and clients with each passing day. I began in the environmental sector in the Alfus group having the privilege to be a partner and I participated, also as partner, in the creation of the Decontamination Techniques limited company (Tecnicas de Decontamination S.A) an industrial waste treatment installation for which I was manager until its sale to FCC (Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A). Subsequently I participated as a partner in the demolition and construction waste plant project for Noulas Resevi S.L. (Castellón) company. I have also been a partner in Transquímica, S.L., a company providing a distribution service for chemical products.

Some years ago, I decided to leave that all behind and focus my efforts on the growth of SERECO. These have been years of hard work, full of successes, as well as setbacks, to be able to provide our clients with a high-quality service in any part of the world.

CEO

JOAN MARTI CALLAU

I joined SERECO in November 2024 as CEO and partner, with the aim of jointly leading, together with the President, the outstanding team that makes up SERECO, thanks to their specialized training, extensive experience, and commitment to the company, in order to ensure the satisfaction and trust of our public and private clients.

I began my career in the environmental sector in 1997 at a family-owned company, where I acquired a comprehensive understanding of the business. Starting in 2000, I developed my career in multinationals such as Agbar, Ferrovial, Suez, and Veolia, holding executive positions that enabled me to address client needs and solutions nationally and internationally. In addition, for more than 20 years, I held responsibilities as a member of management committees and boards of directors, which gave me a holistic and strategic vision of the sector, always keeping ESG criteria in mind.

At the age of 53, I decided to take on new challenges and embark on ventures with greater freedom, focusing on circular economy and decarbonization projects to foster sustainability. In this context, the SERECO project, with its mission of helping companies meet the SDGs and increase their competitiveness, presented an exciting opportunity.

It is a thrilling challenge that, through SERECO’s Vision and thanks to our mobile plants, we can achieve the minimization of waste (and soils) at the source, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions associated with transportation and final treatment (landfill or other) and optimizing overall costs for our clients.
